Managing Change and Progress in the Workplace

by hunee on August 27, 2011

Change and progress are two concepts that any company can never escape from. Every day, something changes in the workplace. And hopefully, the progress happens every day too.

Now, sometimes though, there are those “big” changes that definitely need to be planned, carefully executed and monitored. These are the changes that are specifically designed to bring in progress in the workplace.

If your company is undergoing or is soon to be going through big changes, you need to be aware of three things that would ensure progress. These are the reasons you need a strategic plan and what your action plan must look like.

Benefits of Strategic Plans

Change and progress, in a business standpoint, are supposed to always go hand in hand. But the littlest mistakes or the littlest of details missed may break this relationship.

When your company is going through some changes, you need to have a strategic plan. A plan is the best way to measure your success and progress. Aside from that, it is your only way of ensuring that you would know where you’re going and if there are some areas that you need to focus more on.

Simply put, a strategic plan is your way of “seeing” your company’s future.

Your Action Plan

Every strategic plan needs an action plan. It’s a requirement. So what should be in your action plan? Obviously, you need to point out the actions you need to achieve your goals for your business. It also needs to contain how you can measure your actions or efforts.

-      Regular check-up

To make sure that the changes you’ve implemented are working, you need to conduct regular check-ups or measurements. You need to be sure that you do this in a scheduled way to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the data you’ve gathered. Your best bet is to do regular monthly reports to see real results.

-      Set goals

Another thing that your action plan must contain is your goals. This time, you need to talk numbers. How much should your profits be at this time? How many departmental changes are done by that day? If you set goals, you will have an easier time reaching your goals and ensuring progress.

-      Give yourself deadlines

This third tip is much correlated to the last one. Aside from setting goals, you need to set deadlines too. Working and beating a deadline is really one of the best ways to ensure that some sort of progress is happening.

Now that you know what you need to do to ensure that you will be getting the most progress from the different changes you’ve employed, you can be sure that a big chunk of possible risks have just been eliminated for you and your business.
